EARTH TOUR

Gary devoted the past three years to the creation of a 10.5-hour-long documentary film featuring HORSE the band’s 45-countries-in-90-days, round-the-world EARTH TOUR.  Self-funded, and self-booked, it was the most ambitious nonstop tour ever attempted.

Most comparable to an epic novel, and featuring the startling debut of Cinema Frank, an unprecedented viewing experience awaits…

It also features a very special boombox, which Gary dragged around the world in order to Party everywhere. Tom did all the post audio work. Teamwork.

It is premiering in Vancouver on Sunday April 14th.

Here is the preview:

Here is a Download-By-Donation Torrent for the full 10.5-hour long film (and the film’s official website).

And here is the text synopsis:
“Polarizing art-metal weirdos HORSE the band grow tired of life in the American underground music scene and decide to book and fund a 45-countries-in-90-days, round-the-world tour, all by themselves. Unprecedented in its scope and bravery, it is the most ambitious nonstop tour ever attempted.

$60,000 of credit card debt later, hilarity, chaos, and metaphysical crises begin to ensue as the band strays far from the tourist-trodden path into the homes, underground clubs, and hangouts of real and driven people from some of Earth’s most exotic locales…

Sleep deprivation and nonstop travel eventually take their toll, snowballing into an absurd and meaningless seven-and-a-half-hour climax of binge-drinking, fear, thoughtful reflection, hatred, literary criticism, severe depression, and infantile behavior.

Moving at a very fast pace and laughing their way through CIA-inadvisable, communist/Muslim/anti-American/human-trafficking/terrorist-laden countries and/or dictatorships including but not limited to China, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Serbia, Belarus, as well as the rogue nation of Transnistria, experiences boil down to one of two possibilities: the highest of highs or the lowest of lows.

Later: The lead singer breaks his shoulder onstage with over a week left of tour. The female photographer becomes fat.

People playing music, and selling t-shirts, and changing locations. A modern day Heart of Darkness taking a decidedly frank, open, and honest look at the classic misgivings of a terrible life: What the fuck are we doing? and What happened to me?

Gary Lachance directs and produces a visionary and moving 10.5-hour-long Rock Odyssey in Cinema Frank.”

The Gold Medal Celebration Party Was A Success!

What an amazing night!  Huge thanks to the twenty thousand people who Partied peacefully and respectfully while braving the all-night snowstorm with us.
Photos here. Event Page here.

Thanks also to Vancity for providing extra garbage bins to keep it clean and the VPD for ensuring safety throughout the night.

Unfortunately, we lost at least 80 boomboxes, which was the majority of our fleet…
PLEASE email us if you ended up with one.
Over $1000 was also spent on batteries alone- donations are gratefully accepted HERE 🙂
And our Hog-Wild Prom Party fundraiser is This Friday Night.

We will create a video edit asap, but in the meantime, here’s three great ones found online:

UPDATE:
Just spoke with the police inspector who coordinated security for the Party, and although the papers reported multiple arrests on Granville Street that night, he said he wouldn’t attribute a single one to our event- just the usual entertainment-district idiots causing problems… the streak continues!

We Are Done With The Refresh Contest.

Dear Friends:

We currently sit in 7th position in the Pepsi Refresh Contest and 10 days remain until the contest wraps.  Although we’ve received incredible support from across the country and over 1000 people have signed up to receive our “daily vote reminder” emails, we continue to drop in the rankings.

Major flaws in the voting system have led to other people taking advantage of it: cross-voting, multiple accounts with the same IP address, etc. which has been very frustrating to deal with.  Competing honestly has not worked out as we’d hoped (all details here).

At this point, winning is pretty much an impossibility, and we don’t want to hound you any longer with messages to vote. We have decided to refocus our energies and pursue alternate funding strategies for Party Safari 2011…

Sorry it has come to this- we did our best, and we know you did too.
The level of positive support we’ve received from across the country has been truly overwhelming.  We love you guys and promise we will continue doing everything in our power to make the Strictly Business Tour and Global Party Pandemic a reality.

Rest assured, NOTHING will stop the Party Revolution!

Tom and Gary

BIG UPDATE!

Party Safari 2011 is coming soon. Win a DDP in your city by voting for us in THIS CONTEST!

And!

We are very excited to have just released:

-The PARTY MANIFESTO

-Two Party Safari Teasers:

-The Party Safari 2010 montage video:

(and seven corresponding FACEBOOK albums (tag your friends))

-An invite page for a HUGE OLYMPIC DDP in Vancouver on the 26th

-And we’re still fighting hard to win $100,000 in the REFRESH CONTEST

HOW YOU CAN HELP US WIN AND MAKE PARTY SAFARI 2011 HAPPEN:
Please share the manifesto and videos far and wide to rally as many votes as possible as we head into the last month of voting and make our final push for first!

Here’s the TOUR PAGE ITSELF, and a SHORT VIDEO, both of which explain exactly how to win a DDP for your city (please share with those who don’t know).

And a DAILY VOTE REMINDER too (or just set the Refresh page as your homepage)

We’re currently in 5th place (out of 100) and we’d probably be in first if it weren’t for Serious Flaws in the contest.  If you’re one of the thousands who’ve been voting hard and want an explanation, click HERE.

However!
Although over 40,000 people have now signed up to the Facebook events across the country, most don’t know the details of the contest.  With your help, we can share the teasers, alert them to vote and win this thing!

THANKS EVERYONE!
Tom and Gary

Important Contest Update!

Dear Friends,

Since the launch of the refresh grant contest a few days ago, we have witnessed an unsettling trend.

Whereas we’ve been appealing to our grassroots networks of friends from across the country to share our idea and vote for us, other competitors have been gaming the system…

They are “cross-voting”, which means they form strategic alliances with people who are competing in other categories (there are four categories: $100,000, $25,000, $10,000, $5,000) and they simply swap votes with each other every day (“If you vote for me, I’ll vote for you”) and encouraged all of their supporters to follow suit.

Moreover, a bunch of the projects that are engaging in this behavior are ones that lost in the last round, yet have been carried over… so they already have cross-voting agreements in place with other groups from the past.

This puts new competitors like us at even more of a disadvantage, and the merit of ideas becomes secondary to how many alliances can be formed. This is unfair, isn’t in the spirit of the contest and shouldn’t be allowed.

Tom and Gary will not engage in such behavior, and are counting on all the people who believe in our cause and are excited by our idea to take a stand against cross-voting and help us to win in the face of it!

BUT!
The cross-voters are all good people who are just very passionate about their causes, so please don’t say anything mean or negative to them, even if we fall behind in the voting.

We know we can count on you guys and together we can win this thing for everyone!

Thanks!
Tom and Gary

UPDATE:
One month on, the results of cross-voting can be plainly seen, with animal-related causes leading in every single category, and 13 out of the top 20 overall.  The vast majority of comments on their pages are for cross-voting with the numerous other animal causes.  http://www.refresheverything.ca/leaderboard

There’s also been talk on other competitors’ boards about strategic cross-voting to “push the DDP below 6th place” (so we won’t be carried over to the next round):

And how some are voting daily with upwards of 50 email addresses:

Obviously, this is a small percentage of individuals and their behavior is not representative of any group as a whole. We love animals and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with animal causes and all the ideas in the running were entered by passionate people with great intentions. But we strongly disagree with cross-voting and think the contest is inherently flawed because of it. And so do our supporters, who continually voice their frustration and discouragement.

So Gary called Pepsi, and eventually spoke with a senior representative. He raised these concerns, suggesting that the comment sections be removed, and people be limited to one vote per day (instead of 10), because the integrity of the contest would otherwise be compromised, especially if people were voting with 50 email addresses.

Then he said:
“the other competitors also talk about setting up voting booths at the mall to get people to vote- is that allowed”
“Yes” the representative said.
To which he replied:
“Since email addresses don’t have to be confirmed, what’s to stop someone from moving place to place, fabricating hundreds of email addresses and voting hundreds of times every day?  Really, the system should also limit the number of votes per IP address, because otherwise there’s a flaw that would allow people to cheat”.
There was a long pause.
And then came the response:
“I hear your concerns and we can certainly look into it.. but there’s really not much we can do about the alliances…”

Then Gary said:
“If you allow hundreds of people to vote from a single IP address, that invites fraud. And if you allow people 10 votes per day, that invites cross voting. Both those things compromise the integrity of the contest and I’d love to hear back that something’s being done with this final month to go in our round of voting so I could pass that on to all of our supporters and let everyone know that Pepsi is dedicated to ensuring their contest is fair for everyone.”
“I will share your concerns and definitely appreciate your bringing them to our attention.”
“Is there any chance of these things being implemented in this round of voting?”
“No, because the rules are bonded, and can’t be changed midway.”
“The number of votes people get per day is a rule?”
“It’s in the official rules.”
“Well, it’s the third time Pepsi has held this contest. I’m surprised nothing has been fixed prior to this. Cross-voting must have been an issue beforehand also”.
“Well, I certainly will pass your comments along…”

So that’s the status of what’s up.
It’s cool that Pepsi is trying to do something new and positive with their marketing dollars, but inexcusable that the voting process is still so riddled with faults and loopholes.

Pepsi has not yet responded to assure us they are taking any steps to correct these problems, or will in the future…

Perhaps if enough people share this information and call the Refresh hotline to voice your frustration, something will happen: 1-800-510-2592  Please be polite and respectful.

However!
We just released the teaser videos for Party Safari 2011 and the Party Safari 2010 Montage and The Party Manifesto and have a ton of interviews lined up and we’re hoping these will help rally everyone who believes in the DDP and wants to help us share it with the world. Over 40,000 people have now signed up to the Party Safari event pages across the country and if you can spread the things above and help us inspire them to vote daily we could definitely still win!

THANKS!
Tom and Gary
